List-MAPS Summer School on Proteomics

Training and Research in Listeria transmission through Macro-Array, Proteomic and Sequencing analysis

Are you interested by proteomics approaches and strategies? Would you like to broaden and deepen your knowledge of what proteomics can bring in your scientific topics?

As part of Marie-Sklodowska Curie actions - European Training Network List_MAPS “Training and Research in Listeria transmission through Macro-Array, Proteomic and Sequencing analysis”, the partner INRA UMR Microbiologie Environnement Digestif Santé (MEDiS) organized a Summer school, on the site of Theix, near Clermont-Ferrand.

This one week training will inform participants on the potential and power of proteomics to address biological questions through a Systems Biology approach.  They will have a working knowledge of the latest developments in proteomics.

The summer school will combine the different facets of the proteomic approaches, from the subproteome extraction and sample preparation to the bioinformatics and biostatistics tools to exploit results, passing by the analytical technology of imaging and high resolution mass spectrometry. The teaching will be done by internationally renowned specialists and will be complemented by a visit to the facilities of the platform "Exploration of Metabolism: from genes to metabolites", a scientific and technological infrastructure whose metabolomic component is one of the partners of the national program "Infrastructure d'Avenir" MetaboHub.

This summer school is organized by Michel Hébraud (UCA, INRA, UMR MEDiS) and Conor O’Byrne (National Univ. of Ireland, Galway), with the participation of PFEM staff.

  • Proteomic strategies and approaches
  • Sample separation / Subproteomic / depletion
  • In-gel vs off-gel separations
  • Mass Spectrometry
  • Semi-quantitative and quantitative proteomics
  • Imaging Mass Spectrometry
  • Bio-Informatics and Bio-Statistics
  • Proteomics in addressing biological questions

Target Audience

The Summer school “Quantitative Proteomics” is designed for the 11 Early-Stage Researchers of List_MAPS’ project but is also opened to researchers, engineers or PhD students of the INRA Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes center and to the PhD students of the doctoral School SVSAE of Clermont-Ferrand.

At the end of the Summer school, the attendees will acquire aworking knowledge of the subproteome analysis workflows. They will become familiar with the innovative tools used for protein identification and quantification and for global vs targeted approaches. They will have an overview of the analytical potential of mass spectrometry imaging. They will improve their knowledge of bioinformatics and biostatistics tools to interpret and exploit the raw data generated by proteomics and they will have the keys tointegrate the benefits of proteomics, combined with other omics approaches, to answer research questions.
